Areas of Interest

My research focuses on watershed hydrology and critical zone processes. More specifically, I seek to understand how variations in climate and land use drive physical, chemical, and ecological transport processes in watersheds, with emphasis on the movement of fine suspended sediments and particulate organic material. My approach strongly relies on field sampling and field-scale experiments, laboratory analyses, and numerical and statistical models to describe transport processes. To this end, I employ a series of hydrologic, geochemical, and statistical tools to describe surface and subsurface water flow as well as variations in the character, in-stream movement, and watershed export of suspended sediment.

Lab Information

Research in my lab looks at all of these topics through a field-based geochemical approach. The work done in the lab includes collecting and testing water samples, characterizing soil samples, data interpretation and categorization, and other pertinent research relating to sediment movement through watersheds.
